Each month I try to write one or two posts on my site for potential clients and existing clients. My goal is to share helpful tips about WordPress, like this one.
Any time you change a permalink on a page or post, you should make sure users can still get to the page with the old link. If not, you’ll get the dreaded 404 page not found error.
Luckily there are a bunch of great redirection plugins that can do this for you. Read more about why and how to use them.
Hey ho! I have a new portfolio item! Tom Imerito is a writer in Pittsburgh, PA; he’s a super nice guy, and I love that he’s reinventing himself after a long career writing about science and the future (now he writes about religion and the past). He has a new book, Heretic’s Prayer, and was looking for a website to promote it. Here’s what we did.
I have another project in the home stretch that hopefully I’ll be able to share with you next month. It was another fun site, working with a really nice woman here in Pittsburgh.
Maybe you’re thinking, “Rene, why do you only have five sites in your portfolio? Haven’t you been doing this for awhile now?”
Ha! Yes, you’re right. I’ve been at this for almost a year! (The anniversary of my first client is coming up at the end of the month. If any of you are in town and want to celebrate with me, let me know.)
The bulk of my work comes from agencies. I work for graphic and web designers and other developers who have clients of their own. I do some or all of the technical work and the projects that I work on belong in the portfolios of my clients.
I don’t know if it will always be like this, but it’s a nice mix of heads-down WordPress work and interacting with my own clients.
Part of my plan for the year, once I get my new logo and headshots, is to redo my website and explain my services more thoroughly. I’ll let you know when that happens.
What are you up to? I love getting friendly emails. If you’re so inclined, send me a note and say hi!

P.P.S. Quick funny story for those of you who know my son. We were talking about what to write in this newsletter and here was our conversation.
Eli: “Have you had any customers?”
Me: “Yes.”
Eli: “Have they been satisfied?”
Me: “I think so.”
Eli: “Just get them to write down that they loved working with you and loved their site, and you can put that in the newsletter.”
Me, thinking: “Not bad advice…”
