Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a contract? Hosting and care plans are billed monthly or bi-annually and you can cancel at any time.

Do I have to host with you? Not at all! If you don’t already have website hosting and want to host the site yourself, I can recommend a quality WordPress host.

Does the plan cost less if I don’t host with you? The plan is the same price if you host with me or not. Hosting with me allows me to keep sites streamlined and running smoothly. Learning the ins and outs of your host takes extra time.

What if I don’t use the time for tasks? What if I have too many tasks? Monthly tasks do not roll over from month to month. If you have more tasks in a month than your plan includes, I can send an hourly invoice or quote a project fee. Please get in touch.

Can I switch plans? Absolutely. If you find that you consistently need more tasks in a month than your plan includes, or you’re not using the time you have, you can bump up or down at any time.

Do I have to pay for premium plugins? While you’re a current care plan client, the cost of any premium plugins I have is included in your monthly fee. If you cancel your care plan, you will have 30 days to purchase your own licenses for any premium plugins used on your site. If you need premium plugins that are outside of the ones I already have, you are responsible for purchasing them.

What’s included in the detailed monthly report? The detailed monthly report shows general information about your site (WordPress version, active theme, PHP version) as well as website uptime percentage, security scans performed, updates performed (WordPress, plugins and themes), backups created and analytics (if using Google Analytics).

Is there an onboarding fee? If you or another agency developed your website, I may charge an onboarding fee depending on the current state of the site.

What do these items mean?

  • The first three items relate to hosting — where your website files and data live; managed WordPress hosting is optimized for WordPress sites. SSL is your certificate, shown as the padlock next to your URL in the address bar. Advanced caching and CDN are related to speed. Cached websites load faster, which is better for the user. Learn more about caching.
  • Security monitoring involves scanning your website frequently to determine if there are any vulnerabilities. Malware cleanup involves removing any malware from your site should it become infected.
  • Updates are needed with any software platform. There are three types of updates that occur with WordPress sites. WordPress updates happen a few times per year and include new features as well as bug and security fixes. Your theme dictates how your website looks and theme authors will make improvements and bug fixes to their themes and push out new versions periodically. Plugins are pieces of functionality on your website. Plugin authors fix bugs and add new features to their plugins, and when a new version comes out, it’s best to update.
  • My philosophy is that you can never have too many backups. I like to keep an extra set of backups in the cloud (Dropbox) in addition to the backups that your host may offer (not every host offers backups). If you host with me, you will have two sets of backups — 30 days with the host and 14 days of daily backups, plus an additional 7 weekly backups.
  • I monitor the uptime of your website. If your website goes down for more than a few minutes, I will investigate. Downtime is often due to the host and in that case, they get the sites back up and running as fast as they can.
  • I optimize your site for performance so that it loads more quickly. This can involve turning off unnecessary features, cleaning the database and loading items like Google fonts and analytics locally.
  • I use various premium plugins/themes on my websites including Astra Pro, Advanced Custom Fields, SEOPress Pro, Gravity Forms and Elementor (Pro, Ultimate Addons and Essential Addons). Not every site uses every plugin, but if your site is using any of these plugins, the cost of the license is included as long as you’re a care plan client.
  • For Premium and Ultimate care clients, I scan your website quarterly for broken links and send you the results. I also send a monthly report. See an example.
