The large roll of wrapping paper + changes in the new year
In the late 60s and 70s, my grandfather and father did a lot of scrapping. As I understand the story, they were near Herminie, PA and the abandoned coke ovens when they found many large rolls of wrapping paper.
They pulled them out of the trash (very typical my dad) and brought them home. I remember a roll with gold squares, a silver roll with Santa Claus and a few years ago, I found a teal roll in my dad’s basement.
Now when I say large roll of wrapping paper you probably don’t really understand the magnitude. These rolls are around 25lbs in 2023 and we’ve been using the paper off and on since I was young. (Here are a few pictures.)
They also smell like old. 😂
Typically I’d try to tie this story into some larger message about your content or your website, or personal and business growth, but it was really just a story I wanted to tell you.
I think about them a lot especially at this time of the year, and I don’t know many people who have wrapping paper, or a story like this.
Just a few notes!
- MailerLite is removing its free plan for Classic users, so I either have to migrate or move in the new year. I haven’t decided what I’ll do yet, but I’ll keep you posted when I figure it out. (If YOU are on the free Classic plan, make sure you upgrade to the new editor soon.)
- I still haven’t quite decided how this newsletter will look going forward. I have been writing since 2017 and have written 70 emails. I have loved doing it, but it feels like it’s time to make a change in 2024. (I just don’t know what that is yet. 🙈)
- I’m talking more about The 12 Week Year. I have a free live workshop coming up at the end of the month and am now sharing my weekly scores and thoughts to subscribers of my Gumroad site. If you want to make progress on important but not urgent goals in your life, I’d love to see you there.
- I’m still chugging along with my twice monthly newsletter (you can read them for free at that link or sign up if you want to get them in your inbox) and podcast about digital products.
How was your year? What have you been working on or towards? What will change in the new year?
I hope you have a happy and healthy 2024!
