How can you streamline? Plus, thoughts on WordPress vulnerabilities
Over the past few weeks, I’ve gotten several emails about plugins with security issues.
(Plugins are pieces of functionality for WordPress sites – for extra widgets/design options, forms, backups, security scans, anti-spam measures – you name it, there’s probably a plugin for it.)
When I first started building WordPress sites, I was enamored with all the plugins and added them to my sites without thinking too much about it.
Now that I’ve been around the block a few times, I can see that this might not have been the best approach.
More plugins = more to maintain, more opportunities for security issues and more to worry about.
If I had to go back and do it over again, I’d be MUCH more selective in what I added on any given website.
And not only would I have chosen less, but I would have streamlined a bit more over all of my websites.
Instead of using five different types of form plugins for example, I would have picked one. It’s easier to know one product inside and out than having to learn and support multiple different products.
So today, think about what you can streamline in your business or personal life. What can you cut out to make things easier?
P.S. Make sure you’re updating your plugins and themes! And if you want to stay informed on the latest disclosures for vulnerabilities in WordPress plugins and themes, check out the weekly WordPress Vulnerability Report.
